Hammerforge at UKGE 2026
We're just back from Birmingham, and what a weekend it was! On Friday 29th and Saturday 30th May, James and James (I'm the second one) manned the Hamerforge Chronicles stand, chatting with hundreds of fellow gamer/CYOA/warhammer/metal fans - and selling a few books to boot. We met so many awesome people or all types and stripes - everyone bonding over a shared love of games, puzzles, quests and beautiful books. We even got to meet Ian Livingstone and give him a copy of our bo

Book two is coming this year 2026!
We’re super excited to announce that book two is coming this year. After the success of our debut gamebook, Legion of the Necromancer, we are working on book two. Called Tentacles of the Void, this one is a sci-fi horror escape thriller - tense, claustrophobic and dangerous. Think Alien vs Space Hulk. Expect robots, secret rooms, sentient AI and lots and lots of monsters! We know that sci-fi gamebooks have a chequered past, but we’ve worked hard to make it compelling, exciti

What people are saying about Legion of the Necromancer
Copies of Legion of the Necromancer are reaching buyers. Here's what people are saying about the gamebook so far... REVIEW IN FULL: With the exception of Ian Livingstone’s Blood of the Zombies (Scholastic, 2012), the most recent gamebook I played was originally written in 1986 or 1987. The last four decades may well have seen incredible innovations in the medium, but frankly, I have no idea what they might be. Normally, that sort of admission should disqualify anyone from at

On Sunday 14th December, James and I (Gill), joined YouTuber Adam J Pestridge on his weekly live-cast, ahead of the very first play-through of Legion of the Necromancer . Adam and his audience asked us a bunch of questions about the artwork and story mechanics as well as our future plans, before he and his viewers did a live play-through of the book. You can watch it here. As always, a huge thank you to Adam for inviting us on!

The paperbacks arrive... and then leave
Yesterday, I (James Gill) and James (Isaacs) and our wives convened at Hammerforge Towers in Norwich for a mass packing session. On Friday (12th Dec 2025) we received 500 paperback copies of Legion of the Necromancer. On Saturday, we packed the paperback-only orders (hardbacks arrive on Jan 4th). In addition to the nimble hands of our other-halves, we were aided by whisky cocktails and Bon Jovi albums. It was a busy few hours, but we got it done. All that remains is to deliv

Meet the creators
James Gill (writer) and James Isaacs (artist) are longtime friends and the co-creators of the upcoming gamebook Legion of the Necromancer. In this edited Q&A, they discuss how the project came about, their creative process and why they’re launching it on Kickstarter. Origins of the Project James Gill: Marketing legend Simon Sinek says you should always start with “why” – not how or what. So, let’s start with why. When we first talked about this project (back before Christmas
